Music MarketingThis type of marketing can be fun but demanding. If you are promoting a band and you don't have the backing of a major music label then you are in for a challenge. Basically the object of music marketing is to attract more fans, get more people to attend your performances and sell more CD's. There are some things you can do to get your band noticed and attract the attention of music executives. First, send out a press kit outlining dates and performances. If you are sending out these kits you need to make sure you are doing everything possible to make sure your band gets noticed. One tip is to use a highlighter to make the band's name and the dates of the performances stand out. You can highlight pertinent facts about the band and quotes from press clippings etc. Second, be sure you explain your music genre in detail and answer the popular question of "what kind of music is this?" If you are not a well-known artist then the people receiving your press kits need some background information about you and your music. Make it easy for people to help you. When creating your press package include interesting details that make it easy for the writer/reporter to come up with a headline story about your band. If you provide interesting information then it makes their job easier therefore giving them information to create an exciting story. Third, be open-minded when it comes to marketing. If you don't have a lot of money for advertising then use your imagination. You can talk to local record stores or magazines and work out a reasonable advertising campaign that will fit your budget. Make sure you have plenty of visuals and ads at your performances. When it comes to marketing a new band or CD, you must be focused and use all of the resources available in the music industry. Press kits are a must without the support of the media you will probably not be very successful in your marketing goals. |
